I began my horseracing career in 1989 at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, then moved to Houston to become the VP of Marketing for Sam Houston Race Park. I was introduced to Tim Smith, commissioner of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and D.G. Van Clief of the Breeders' Cup Limited and loved the idea of going to work at the national office. In 2000, I moved to Lexington and was in charge of establishing the sponsorships for NTRA and Breeders' Cup, which would include TV commercials on ESPN, ESPN2, CBS, ESPN and hospitality at many of the tracks in U.S., Canada and Europe.
In 2004, I started my own company, Affinity Sports Marketng, in Dallas-Ft. Worth.....my first clients were the American Quarter Horse Association, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Youbet.com and Vinery Farm in Lexington. I feel fortunate to have started in Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racing, learning both sports and its leadership and along the way learning the show business.
A close friend told me to "diversify, diversify, diversify" so from the beginning, Affinity has done so. Our clients include a natural gas company, a major restaurant chain, equine industry related companies, a big green tractor company and many others - www.affinitysportsmarketing.com
